WordPress Cricket theme

Cricket theme

This site has been created using the cricket theme, which was built in order to support the highstreetmethodist.org.uk website.  Its features (with the underlying plugins) include:

  • Responsive layout which adjusts for different screen sizes, e.g. for iPad, iPhones etc. Reduce the width of your web browser to see this in action.  Shaded side boxes will move to the top or the bottom of the main text on small screens for easier readability.  It is moved to the bottom if the ‘order’ value for the post is greater than 9.
  • Supports twentyEleven theme feature of random header images, but also allows specific headers to be attached to specific pages (Using Unique Headers).
  • Allows thumbnails to be attached to a page so that the thumbnail appears on summary pages – example.
  • User defined fonts and colours  (Using OptionTree)
  • Posts used to create items that can be used in multiple locations in the website.  These can be in the main body of the page or in a right sidebar (Using my  Include Posts In Pages).
  • Supports summary pages which summarise and provide links to selected posts and pages: See here for an example. (Using my Include Posts In Pages).
  • Allows thumbnails to be attached to a page so that the thumbnail appears on summary pages – example.
  • Authors can be given given access rights to specific pages and posts. They can create additional pages under any pages they are given. (Using my Allow Page Authors)
  • Additional author(s) can be configured to edit pages associated with a particular author (Using my Allow Page Authors)
  • Contributors can be given edit rights to specific pages and posts. They can create additional pages but they must be approved by an editor (Using my Allow Page Authors)
  • Intranet capability provided by allowing subscribers to see private pages.
  • Three excerpts, randomly selected from articles tagged as ‘featured’ are shown on the front page (Using my  Include Posts In Pages and Advanced Excerpt).
  • Site tagline moved to the footer, together with site Email address.
  • Automatically adds links to the heading of pages and to thumbnails on summary pages so that they can be clicked when it is on a summary page and they take the reader to the full page.
  • Main menu generated automatically by the theme, with visible intranet pages added automatically when a user is logged in
  • Extra custom menus can be added to the right hand side.  These automatically highlight the current page.   This page contains an example.

It is a child theme of the WordPress twenty eleven theme and can be downloaded here

During installation the theme prompts for the various additional plugins that it requires (Based on the excellent TGM Plugin Activation code).

These additional plugins are also recommended.
